Serving HIM, By Serving You!

Basic Doctrine of Christ – sub-titled “Milk to Meat” – Taken from Hebrews Ch. 5 & 6

In the context of explaining these basic doctrines of Christ the writer to the Hebrews explains that if we do not know them and cannot teach them to others that we are babes in Christ who are in need of milk. This course will also explain what the writer to the Hebrews was teaching, whom his intended audience was and how to apply these teachings to believers today.

The sub-title is also the Key Word – Milk to Meat for this New Testament book.  This series explains the elementary principles of Christ (the ABC’s) using creative teaching aids like PowerPoint presentations with graphics and a personal workbook for follow-up and future study.

This is the perfect course to start with, we all need to start with the ABC’s! Once people have the Basic Doctrine of Christ under their belt they will know, understand and be able to share with others the foundational principles and elementary principles of Christ. The format of “Milk to Meat” can be that of a revival over 4 to 5 sessions or we can customize the format to meet your needs.

First Session

I. Repentance From Dead Works

We begin with an introduction to the Book of Hebrews, then we examine chapter five in context where the writer states that it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.” v.11   The writer is talking about their spiritual immaturity.

We examine the biblical illustration of a babe in Christ; who can only partake of the milk of the Word compared to solid food that belongs to those who are of full age, the mature in Christ.

Then we look at the basic “Doctrine of Christ” (KJV), and the first foundational doctrine of Repentance from dead works. Defining what biblical repentance really is by doing a word study and looking at what the writer is communicating to the Jewish believers.  Then we apply this principle to ourselves.

Second Session

II. Faith In God

We continue our study looking at Faith in God. We examine several other scriptures to help us understand what saving faith is and what saving faith is not.

We talk about:

  1. Knowing the facts
  2. Believing the facts
  3. Trusting “in the person” of the facts

We examine 1 John 5:13 and do a word study on “know,” explaining how we can know that we have eternal life.

We close by applying this to ourselves and taking a test…

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?   2 Corinthians 13:5

Third Session

III. Baptisms And Laying On Of Hands

Here we look in context what the writer to the Hebrews is saying.

Asking:  What baptism is he talking about?  And how does that apply to me?  Looking at laying on of hands we ask the same question and  examine the application to us today.

We also explain the transition in Acts going from LAW to GRACE as it relates to these two basic doctrines of Christ.

Fourth Session

IV. Resurrection And Eternal Judgment

We explain the FIRST and LAST Resurrection of the dead in detail.  Then we examine the judgment seat of Christ and the Great White Throne judgment, noting that Eternal Judgment in v.2 is the Great White Throne judgment.

Note: This is a pre-Millennial pre-Tribulation Viewpoint
